Starbucks Launches Crypto-Based Loyalty Program To First Beta Testers

Posted on December 11, 2022 by Justin

Starbucks has opened up “Odyssey”, its web3 driven loyalty program, which features an immersive experience with a case, as well as an NFT. Starbucks Odyssey uses web3 technologies (it’s built on Polygon) to add cafe-themed NFTs as Starbucks Rewards.

This blockchain-based program includes non-fungible, coffee-themed tokens linked to rewards and real-world experiences. Starbucks is among the first companies to integrate non-fungible tokens (NFTs) into the industry-leading loyalty program on a large scale, creating a digital community that will allow Starbucks to connect in new ways to Starbucks Rewards members and Starbucks partners, reported by Starbucks.

Through engagement, the company will enable easier access to Web3 experiences, and in the process, bring to the world a new, next-generation loyalty program model.

Starbucks is using significant elements of Web3 technologies to rewards members in innovative ways, including digital collectibles with ownership rights (NFTs) that act as access passes into an appealing coffee universe and unique experiences with Starbucks.

Starbucks opened their much anticipated Web3 Odyssey Program to a small group of waiting list members, including employees and customers, by allowing them to participate in interactive Journeys, which earned them Journey Stamps—the NFTs. An extension of the Starbucks Rewards loyalty program, Starbucks Odyssey launched to a small group of waitlist members, including customers and Starbucks employees.
“It happens to be built on blockchain and web3 technologies, but the customer — to be honest — may very well not even know that what they’re doing is interacting with blockchain technology. It’s just the enabler,” Starbucks CMO Brady Brewer told TechCrunch in an interview.
