How Blockchain Might Revolutionize Video

Torrenting video has long been a way to get around censorship and to share sensitive materials. Video torrents are shared over peer to peer networks, allowing users to share files without the need for a central intermediary. On such networks, participants are called peers, and the communication protocol breaks the files into little bits, which are uploaded by seeders to downloaders.

As seeders maintain active upload connections, downloaders can access materials, such as videos. The more people connected to the network as both seeders and downloaders, the faster one can download the files. Peer to peer networks have many advantages over centralized servers.

Disadvantages of Centralized Servers

Centralized servers come with many shortcomings, such as being highly dependent on network connectivity. If nodes lose connectivity, a centralized system fails due to the existence of only one node. This puts the system at risk for an abrupt failure. In a centralized system, there is less possibility of data backup. In an architecture where there exists but one server node, it can be problematic to take the server down for maintenance so as to conduct maintenance.

The Alternative

A decentralized architecture provides benefits over centralized ones, such as the entire load being balanced across all nodes, which leads to minimal bottlenecking of information processing. Decentralized ensures nodes are always online, and gives users more autonomy and control over resources, since each node controls its own behavior, it has better autonomy leading to more control over resources.

Peer To Peer Networks

P2P networks provide many advantages to users, such as easy file sharing, reduced costs, adaptability, reliability, and more. Advanced P2P networks quickly share files, which can be accessed anytime. In a P2P network, one does not need to invest in a separate computer for a server. It doesn’t require a network operating system or a full-time system administrator. P2P networks onboard new clients easily, which is a form of scalability, making them more flexible than traditional client-server networks.

Whereas a client-server network can fail in the event of a central server malfunction, a p2p network would remain functional even if the central server crashes. If a single computer goes, the other continues as normal. This also prevents bottlenecking since traffic is distributed across multiple computers.

Client-server networks perform less effectively when more clients join the network. A p2p network can improve its performance as more clients join, because clients in a p2p network is a server which contributes resources to the network. Simply put, emerging p2p networks allow for collaboration between devices that have different resources which can benefit from the network.

Decentralized Video And Earn To View

Users can now get paid for watching videos in a verifiable way thanks to blockchain, which makes decentralized video tracking and payments platforms possible. Users earn tokens while consuming a video, allowing content creators to have access to direct revenue generation. Content distributors provide video-on-demand services so consumers pay per view.

Decentralized video makes it possible for users to share their unused bandwidth to run a video streaming platform. Decentralized unused bandwidth can ensure increased availability of videos, as well as quicker streaming. Similar to torrents, the more users that participate in the network, the better its performance. Blockchain can make possible censorship-resistant video platforms, which transparently award nodes, content creators and viewers. What’s more, viewers and creators don’t have to worry about being demonetized.
