MUST Know Crypto Indices

Here we maintain a list of crypto indices so you can keep track of the markets.

Bitcoin Liquid IndexThe BNC Bitcoin Liquid Index (BLX) API determines a USD price point for one bitcoin at tick intervals of 30 seconds. This index includes End-of-Day (EOD), OHLCV, Time and Volume-Weighted-Average (T-WAP and V-WAP) readings, as well. The Bitcoin Liquid Index has been assigned the Reuters Instrument Code (RIC) BTCINX=BNC, and the BNC contributor page is referenced as: BNC/INDEX.

Ethereum Liquid Index – The BNC Ethereum Liquid Index (ELX) API calculates a USD price point for one Ethereum at tick intervals of 30 seconds. The index includes End-of-Day (EOD), OHLCV, Time and Volume-Weighted-Average (T-WAP and V-WAP) readings, as well. The Reuters Instrument Code (RIC) assigned for the Bitcoin Liquid Index is ELXINX=BNC, and the BNC contributor page is referenced as: BNC/INDEX.

Ripple Liquid Index – The BNC XRP Liquid Index (XRPLX) API calculates a USD price point for one XRP at tick intervals of 30 seconds as calculated. The index also includes End-of-Day (EOD), OHLCV, Time and Volume-Weighted-Average (T-WAP and V-WAP) readings, as well. The Reuters Instrument Code (RIC) assigned for the Bitcoin Liquid Index is XRPINX=BNC, and the BNC contributor page is referenced as: BNC/INDEX.

CMC Crypto 200 – The CMC Crypto 200 includes the volume-weighted average price (“VWAP”) on the top 200 cryptocurrencies, not including Bitcoin and stablecoins, by market capitalization in terms of USD. This index provides exposure to the broader cryptocurrency market by incorporating the cryptocurrencies of the global crypto market sans Bitcoin, which tends to dominate the market. Rebalanced on the last day of each calendar quarter, Index constituent weights are fixed on the selection date, which is five days prior to the rebalancing date, when eligible cryptocurrencies are ranked by their present market capitalization. Therefore, growing or shrinking cryptocurrencies are accurately represented in the overall index. If a cryptocurrency is not eligible for membership any longer, a replacement is named at the next scheduled rebalancing. The VWAP for each cryptocurrency incorporates pricing data from more than 200 licensed exchanges, which is then weighted by trading volume. 

Crypto200 ex BTC Index – This index is composed of the volume-weighted average price (“VWAP”) on the top 200 cryptocurrencies, sans Bitcoin and stablecoin, by market capitalization and in terms of USD. 

CIX100 – CIX100 is a cryptocurrency index of the 100 best performing currencies. This is the digital weighted average expression of the TOP-100 cryptocurrencies included in the index. Based on AI, Crypto Index analyzes more than 3,000 coins for more than 200+ factors (Social networks, trading histories, and many others). 

Bitwise 10 Large Cap Crypto Index – This index by investment firm Bitwise Asset Management  “tracks the total return of the 10 largest cryptoassets, as measured and weighted by free-float and 5-year inflation-adjusted market capitalization,” according to Bitwise website. To be eligible for inclusion in any of Bitwise’s indices, a a crypto asset must meet several requirements, such as being “cryptographically secured digital bearer instrument.” It also must be a bearer instrument, and must be available for trade on at least two exchanges deemed eligible by Bitwise. No stablecoins are included. 

CCi30 – This index tracks the performance of the 30 largest cryptocurrencies, less stablecoins, in terms of their market capitalization. This index was developed by a group of fund managers, mathematicians. According to the index’s website, “the CCi30 has been designed with 5 main characteristics: 1. diversified; 2. replicable; 3. transparent; 4. provides in-depth coverage of the entire sector; 5. presents the best risk-adjusted performance profile possible.”

The Bloomberg Galaxy Crypto Index (BGCI) – This index was created to keep pace of largest cryptocurrencies denominated in the U.S. dollar. In addition to being traded in USD, digital assets must meet several other criteria to be eligible to be included. They must have two pricing sources, each of which must follow certain criteria, such as providing Bloomberg with details about their management structure and compliance program. Cryptocurrencies must have a certain trading volume to be eligible in the form of a 30-day median value of at least US $2 million from a cross no fewer than two eligible sources.”The index brings our rigorous approach to index construction to cryptos and will provide investors with a transparent benchmark to gauge the performance of the broader market,” said Alan Campbell, who served as the Global Product Manager for Bloomberg Indices at the time of launch.

IDX Tactical Bitcoin Index – The index is designed to opportunistically allocate between bitcoin and cash using a proprietary rules-based process.  The index seeks to provide a risk-managed allocation option for investors seeking exposure to bitcoin with lower volatility and lower drawdowns than a long-only allocation. Coinbase, Inc. clients can now engage IDX Insights directly in order to implement the IDX Tactical Bitcoin Index strategy in their accounts.

BitVol – The BitVol (Bitcoin Volatility) are a measure of expected 30-day implied volatility in BTC and ETH, respectively.

EthVol –  EthVol (Ethereum Volatility) Indexes are a measure of expected 30-day implied volatility in BTC and ETH, respectively.

Bitcoin Volatility Index (BVIN) – The Bitcoin Volatility Index (BVIN), launched by CryptoCompare and the University of Sussex Business School, measures the implied volatility of bitcoin; that is the view of bitcoin options traders on volatility over the next 30 days. The index serves as a valuable tool for institutional investors to price bitcoin volatility risk, and hedge and trade on bitcoin volatility.

iEdge Bitcoin Index – This index tracks Bitcoin with a price estimation of the underlying. Calculated in partnership with CryptoCompare, the index uses the Volume Weighted Average Price (VWAP) aggregated from trusted digital asset exchanges graded AA or A.

iEdge Ethereum Index This index tracks Ethereum with a price estimation of the underlying. Calculated in partnership with CryptoCompare, this index uses Volume Weighted Average Price (VWAP) aggregated from trusted digital asset exchanges graded AA or A.

MVIS CryptoCompare Bitcoin Benchmark Rate – This index provides a robust price for Bitcoin in terms of USD and is based on one hour median weighted prices.

ITI Funds Crypto Index – this Index measures the performance of an investable digital assets portfolio with the desire to have a long-term and non-speculative investment approach based on passive investment in a list of crypto assets from the top 30 market leaders. 

MVIS CryptoCompare Digital Assets 10 Index – This Index is a modified market cap-weighted index tracking the performance of the 10 largest and most liquid digital assets. 

MVIS CryptoCompare Digital Assets 100 Index – This index is a market cap-weighted index tracking the performance of the 100 largest digital assets and serves as a benchmark for the other MVIS CryptoCompare Digital Assets Indices, covering  the top 100 digital assets by market capitalization.

MVIS CryptoCompare Digital Assets 100 Large-Cap Index – This Index is a market cap-weighted index which tracks the performance of the 20 largest digital assets in the MVIS CryptoCompare Digital Assets 100 Index. This index serves as a broad benchmark for digital assets. 

MVIS CryptoCompare Digital Assets 100 Mid-Cap Index – The MVIS CryptoCompare Digital Assets 100 Mid-Cap Index is a market cap-weighted index which tracks the performance of the 30 mid-size digital assets in the MVIS CryptoCompare Digital Assets 100 Index. This covers the mid 30 components of MVDA. 

MVIS CryptoCompare Digital Assets 25 Index – This Index is a modified market cap-weighted index which tracks the performance of the 25 largest and most liquid digital assets. Most demanding size and liquidity screenings are applied to potential index components to ensure investability.

MVIS CryptoCompare Digital Assets 5 Index – This Index is a modified market cap-weighted index which tracks the performance of the 5 largest and most liquid digital assets. Most demanding size and liquidity screenings are applied to potential index components to ensure investability.

21Shares Crypto Basket Index – The aim of the 21Shares Crypto Basket Index (HODL5) is to track the financial performance of the top and most liquid crypto-assets as well as provide a professional benchmark for the broader crypto asset class. The index covers the largest and most liquid tokens, weighted by their forecast 2050 market capitalization.
